The agricultural sector plays a central role in the national economy. The importance of agricultural growth, rural livelihoods, and food security is undisputed. Most Afghans live in rural areas and rely on agriculture and animal husbandry for their livelihoods and the sustenance of their families. Agriculture also provides employment and investment opportunities for people living in urban areas. A large portion of the country’s GDP depends on the productivity of agriculture.
