Environment and Climate Change
The links between the economy and the environment are manifold. The environment provides resources to the economy and acts as a sink for emissions and waste. Poor environmental quality affects economic growth and well-being by lowering the quantity and quality of resources and through the impacts on health and other areas.
While Afghanistan has not contributed to global climate change, it suffers greatly because of the growing risks and vulnerabilities, such as more frequent periods of drought and intense flooding. Poor regulations, growing population, weak institutions, and unsustainable practices, such as deforestation, have caused air and water pollution.
