Our History
Apama I, born in Bactria, an ancient kingdom located in what is now Balkh Province of Afghanistan, married Seleucus, Alexander the Great’s most trusted general. She eventually became queen of the eastern part of the empire conquered by Alexander. Her lands as queen stretched from today’s Syria through Iran to Afghanistan.
Like its namesake, who exhibited great courage in protect the sovereignty of her kingdom and promote prosperity during a fragile period, Apama Consultancy strives to facilitate positive change in favor of the people of Afghanistan. It does this through multistakeholder partnerships and rigorous analysis for effective development and positive results.
Apama was launched in 2010 in response to a growing need for reliable, accurate data and pragmatic solutions. It sought to enhance the design, implementation, and monitoring of development interventions and policies. Since then, Apama has successfully carried out many projects for the government of Afghanistan and international organizations in the cities and rural settings across the country, sometimes in challenging environments.
Apama has worked with ministers, local government officials, and donors in a variety of key activities, including opinion polls on development issues, gender empowerment initiatives, water sector feasibility studies, and advisory support for public-private partnerships. Through these experiences, all participants have learned valuable lessons in project management and have established excellent networks among experts and institutions.
